Veronika Moravec, the Founder & CEO of Verra, is a passionate biotechnologist and entrepreneur dedicated to enhancing women's health through high-quality dietary supplements. We spoke to Veronika about why women should always prioritize their reproductive health and her path from research to entrepreneurship. She also shared her commitment to providing high-quality supplements and her vision for supporting women's well-being in a meaningful way.

Please begin by telling us a bit about yourself and what you do.

First and foremost, I am a proud mother of two wonderful children. Professionally, I am the founder and CEO of Verra, a company dedicated to the research and development of premium food supplements tailored to support women's health at every stage of life. Besides my professional pursuits, I am an avid runner, finding joy and clarity in the activity, though I must admit that cooking is not my favorite pastime!

What inspired you to start Verra? Tell us more about your journey as a founder.

The inspiration to start Verra came from observing those around me who dared to leave their conventional jobs to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams. My career began in food tech startups, including Mana, Sens, and Ketomix, and I also gained invaluable experience working with the State Institute for Drug Control. These experiences culminated in my decision to embark on my own entrepreneurial journey, leading to the creation of Verra.

What kinds of needs and issues do your products address?

At Verra, our focus is on developing high-quality food supplements that address the unique health needs of women. Each product we create undergoes rigorous testing by the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) to ensure its efficacy and safety.

Why should women take interest in their reproductive health at all stages of life, not

just when they’re planning for a child?

Women should prioritize their reproductive health throughout their lives, not just when

planning for pregnancy. Just as we regularly brush our teeth, monitor our skin, and maintain our hair, we must also attend to our reproductive health. A healthy menstrual cycle, smooth pregnancy, uncomplicated breastfeeding, and manageable menopause symptoms are critical aspects of overall well-being that should never be taken for granted.

When choosing supplements to support women’s reproductive health, how can I tell

that they’re high quality? What should I look for and, on the contrary, what should I try to avoid?

When selecting supplements for reproductive health, it is crucial to examine the product composition. Key considerations include the presence of active or organic ingredients, the absence of harmful additives, the credibility of the research and development team, and the production location. These factors ensure that the supplements are both effective and safe.

What are some key ingredients you use in your products and how do they support

women’s reproductive health?

While there isn't a single key ingredient, the overall composition of our supplements is

designed to support women's reproductive health comprehensively. Each ingredient is selected for its specific benefits and contribution to the overall effectiveness of the product.

How long does it usually take to notice the positive effects of your supplements?

The time it takes to notice positive effects from our supplements varies depending on

individual lifestyles. At Verra, we recommend consistent use of our products for at least three

months to achieve optimal results.

Last but not least, people often mention they struggle with consistency when taking

supplements. Do you have any tips for incorporating supplements into your daily routine?

To help with consistency, I suggest taking supplements after breakfast or lunch. Avoid taking them after dinner, as metabolism and digestion slow down during sleep. However, there are some supplements, which should be taken in the evening (for instance Verra magnesium). Establishing a regular routine can significantly enhance the effectiveness of the supplements.

Science and Health: Why are women missing information men have had available for ages? And what do we already know about the female body today?

Women have been, and unfortunately still are, often overlooked in health research. Even in the 1990s, women were rarely included in clinical studies. This lack of research has led to a higher rate of adverse drug reactions—twice as high compared to men. Women with metal hip implants had a 29% higher likelihood of implant failure due to anatomical differences. Diagnosing endometriosis takes an average of 7–10 years, despite up to 10% of reproductive-age women worldwide suffering from it. Only in 2022 did a Harvard study confirm that women's representation in research remains insufficient. For a long time, the male body was considered the medical norm. Today, we know this simply isn't the case.

Věda a zdraví: Proč ženám chybí informace, které mají muži dávno k dispozici? A co už dnes víme o ženském těle?
