SThree runs its global women’s leadership development programme, Identify, and for the year 2022, they decided to offer the participants of the leadership programme an opportunity to get a personal mentor.
Mentoring strategy
SThree enrolled 30 women in Femme Palette’s mentoring programme, which focused on developing leadership skills, as well as confidence, work-life balance, and management skills. The programme kicked-off with a “How to be a good mentee” workshop, briefing mentees of the development scheme ahead. Femme Palette’s Program Manager then discussed individual career and leadership challenges, which helped the mentees define their SMART goals. These goals were used to connect mentees with the right mentors, whom they’d be working with for the 6 months, meeting every two weeks. This gave participants a chance to spend up to 12 hours with their mentor. The selected mentors offered years of leadership and management experience, and some had recruiting backgrounds.
We tracked mentees’ progress over time and collected their feedback after each session, and at the 3-month and 6-month mark. At the end of the programme, the representatives of Femme Palette were invited to London to participate in the Identify final ceremony, where they met the mentees in person and presented on the power of mentoring.
Impact
Based on the collected feedback and measured metrics, mentees were happy overall with their mentors (94% satisfaction rate). They learnt new things applicable in their roles, felt more like authentic leaders and more confident after their mentoring experience. Significant improvements were seen in giving and receiving feedback, and empowering and developing others. Overall, mentees achieved their programme goals by 86% by the end of their journey.
