Career, travel, finding the right partner, or simply not feeling ready yet - there are many reasons why women today are choosing to delay motherhood. Thanks to modern medicine, biology doesn’t have to dictate your life plans. One of the most effective ways to protect your future fertility is social freezing - and Unica is here to guide you through the process.

What is Social Freezing?

Also known as fertility preservation, social freezing is the preventive freezing of your healthy eggs for use later in life. It gives you the freedom to delay pregnancy without reducing your chances of conceiving in the future.

Women most often choose social freezing when:

  • They currently don’t have a long-term partner but want children later
  • They want to focus on career, education, or personal goals
  • They have a family history of premature menopause
  • They are undergoing medical treatment that may affect fertility
  • They want to preserve high-quality eggs even at a later age

While there’s no strict age limit for social freezing, experts recommend doing it ideally between ages 25 and 35, when egg quality is at its peak. The earlier it’s done, the better the chances of a healthy pregnancy later on. As egg quality and quantity naturally decline with age, freezing eggs at a younger stage helps preserve your fertility potential and keeps more options open for the future.

How Does the Process Work?

The procedure is similar to IVF:

  1. Hormonal stimulation - Daily medication for 10–12 days helps the ovaries produce multiple mature eggs.
  2. Egg retrieval - The eggs are collected during a short procedure under general anesthesia.
  3. Cryopreservation - The eggs are frozen at –196°C in liquid nitrogen.

Research shows that up to 95% of frozen eggs can be successfully thawed, and around 20 frozen eggs are considered optimal for a good chance of success.

⚠️ Important to know: Social freezing greatly improves your chances, but it doesn’t guarantee pregnancy. Factors like timing, age, and overall health still play important roles.

Why Consider It Now?

Time is a critical factor in fertility. Egg quantity and quality begin to decline after age 30 and drop significantly after 35. By choosing to freeze your eggs earlier, you preserve the potential for a future pregnancy using your own younger, healthier cells - even years down the road.

How Does It Work at Unica?

At Unica, we combine over 30 years of expertise in assisted reproduction with an individualized, holistic approach to care. Before starting treatment, our specialists evaluate key fertility factors such as:

  • AMH levels (ovarian reserve)
  • Vitamin D and hormone levels
  • Lifestyle factors like BMI and smoking
  • Antral follicle count (AFC) to assess the number of available eggs

You’ll receive personal support at every stage. The entire procedure usually requires just two visits to our clinic in Prague or Brno, and the initial consultation can be done online for free.

What Makes Unica Different?

With over 30 years of experience, Unica is one of Europe’s leading fertility clinics. Our team of international experts provides top-level care in reproductive medicine, embryology, and patient support.

Beyond social freezing, we offer a comprehensive range of treatments, including:

To ensure broader access, Unica partners with a trusted clinic in Spain. There, we offer free egg transport for patients who may not qualify for treatment in the Czech Republic, such as single women or same-sex female couples. Embryos can be created and transferred in accordance with Spanish law, allowing us to support more diverse family paths - with the same high standard of care and respect.

Mentoring for women in Amsterdam: Why guidance and community matter in a global city

Amsterdam is often celebrated for its canals, bikes, and coffee culture, but beneath that aesthetic is something equally compelling: a city full of ambition. With international companies, startups, research institutions, and creative industries, it attracts people who want to build meaningful careers. Yet for many women working here, locals and internationals alike, the reality can feel complex. We arrive expecting connection, clarity, and direction, only to discover the opposite: professional transitions, cultural differences, and uncertainty about how to grow or who to turn to. That’s where mentoring and community become more than “nice to have.” They become tools for navigating a global city in a grounded way.
