Managing your finances can feel daunting, but when you have the right guidance, it becomes an empowering journey of self-discovery, strategic planning, and community support. Femme Palette’s recent Financial Wellness Event brought together industry experts, hands-on workshops, and a network of like-minded participants—all with the goal of helping women gain confidence and clarity in their financial lives.

A Day of Expert Insights

The event kicked off with a keynote by Veronika Luhová, a behavioral psychologist from Česká Spořitelna, who emphasized the emotional aspects of money management. Highlighting the five (sometimes six) pillars of financial health—budgeting, reserve funds, investments, housing, debt, and protection—she reminded everyone that finances are deeply tied to our values and personal well-being. “Taking control of my finances starts with recognizing my own mindset,” shared one participant. “I never realized how my emotions affected my money habits until this workshop.”

Real estate then took center stage with Bára Šťovíčková and Zuzana Světelská from Bureš & partneři. They underscored why property can be a powerful, long-term investment—especially in urban markets like Prague, where demand outstrips supply. Their session covered everything from identifying prime locations to performing technical inspections and leveraging mortgages for higher returns. “The real estate session was a game-changer for me,” said another attendee. “I feel much more confident looking into real estate opportunities now.”

Retirement Planning and the Power of Early Investments

Jana Zelinková of Generali Penzijní společnost tackled one of the biggest myths about retirement—that you can’t access your money until you’re much older. She emphasized state-supported pension products, tax relief opportunities, and flexible withdrawal options. “I always assumed I’d have to rely on a government pension,” noted a participant, “but Jana showed us how taking small steps now can make a huge difference later on.”

For those intrigued by the “FIRE” movement (Financial Independence, Retire Early), Matúš Kuchálik from Teoriepenez.cz explored strategies for saving and investing aggressively to retire at a younger age. He acknowledged that while it’s a buzzword, it can be a feasible path if approached mindfully. He also cautioned about the emotional pitfalls: “Obsession with numbers and ignoring your overall life satisfaction can lead to stress,” Matúš advised.

Mindset Matters in Investing

Marika Čupa from Fin4elle highlighted how mindset and principles are the real differentiators when it comes to successful investing. She recounted her own evolution from seeking quick wins to embracing a steady, long-term approach. Her key message? Understand your “investment why”—the motivation behind wanting to invest or grow your wealth—and choose strategies that match your risk tolerance and personality. “I finally understand how to invest in a way that feels right for me,” one participant enthused. “It’s not just about chasing returns; it’s about feeling secure in my decisions.”

A Supportive and Actionable Experience

From learning about budgeting and mindful spending to exploring property markets and retirement vehicles, the Financial Wellness Event offered a comprehensive look at how women can shape their financial futures. Attendees were encouraged to share experiences, ask questions, and connect with one another, illustrating how a strong community can propel individual growth.

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. One participant summed it up perfectly: “I left feeling inspired and equipped to tackle my financial goals. The event had the perfect balance of real-world insights and friendly guidance.”

Mentoring in tech isn’t just for juniors: Why mid-level women are seeking mentors too

When you hear the word “mentoring,” you might picture someone fresh out of university or just starting their first role in tech, eager for guidance. And while early-career mentoring is powerful, there’s a growing trend we see at Femme Palette: more and more mid-level women in tech are actively seeking out mentors — and reaping major benefits. Whether you're a software engineer eyeing your first leadership role, a product manager navigating a complex team dynamic, or a data analyst feeling stuck in the same projects — mentoring at this stage isn’t about learning the ropes. It’s about gaining clarity, confidence, and strategy for your next move.

Science and Health: Why are women missing information men have had available for ages? And what do we already know about the female body today?

Women have been, and unfortunately still are, often overlooked in health research. Even in the 1990s, women were rarely included in clinical studies. This lack of research has led to a higher rate of adverse drug reactions—twice as high compared to men. Women with metal hip implants had a 29% higher likelihood of implant failure due to anatomical differences. Diagnosing endometriosis takes an average of 7–10 years, despite up to 10% of reproductive-age women worldwide suffering from it. Only in 2022 did a Harvard study confirm that women's representation in research remains insufficient. For a long time, the male body was considered the medical norm. Today, we know this simply isn't the case.

Věda a zdraví: Proč ženám chybí informace, které mají muži dávno k dispozici? A co už dnes víme o ženském těle?
