Monika Dubová joined what was then Sazka as the first front-end IT analyst on the team. Today, at Allwyn Czech Republic, she leads the front-end development department, which includes up to 40 people when external collaborators are counted in and is responsible for web and mobile applications used by both customers and employees.
Along the way, she also worked on one of the most ambitious projects across the entire group: the transformation of the UK National Lottery.
“I realised that I genuinely enjoy the gaming and lottery business. There is never any routine,” she says.
Monika joined Sazka in early 2020 after working in banking, stepping into a role that had barely existed in the company before. As the first front-end IT analyst, she became a link between business teams and development. Today, she leads a team of analysts, developers, testers and mobile application architects, while also coordinating external suppliers. Their work touches almost every part of the company, from marketing to security. “We figure out how to turn ideas into technical solutions, test them and deliver them to customers. We are essentially the bridge between business and development,” Monika explains.
A major turning point in Monika’s career came when she joined the transformation project for the UK National Lottery. From April 2022, she first worked on the project as a business analyst and later became the lead of the entire analysis team, which grew from just three people to 40. Their task was to define business requirements and map processes for the full transformation and launch of the new UK National Lottery licence. Working in an international team, alongside colleagues from several countries as well as external consultants hired directly in the UK, also gave Monika an opportunity to compare different working styles.
In her view, her Czech colleagues came out of that comparison very well. She particularly values their efficiency and ability to think outside the box, finding practical solutions quickly and with less bureaucracy.
After completing her part of the UK project, Monika returned to Allwyn in Prague, this time straight into a management role. The opportunity to grow professionally within the same company is becoming increasingly important to employees. According to the international Randstad Workmonitor 2025 survey, 41% of employees would leave their job if they had no opportunities for further career development. Monika’s working day follows a clear rhythm. She deals with operational tasks and emails first thing in the morning, while from around 9 a.m. onwards her schedule fills with team and project meetings, mentoring analysts and close collaboration with scrum masters. She prefers working from the office because, in her experience, team collaboration works better in person. At the same time, she also appreciates having the option to work from home when she needs it.
Within her team, Monika does not see herself only as a manager. She also acts as a mentor and guide. She appreciates Allwyn’s relatively flat organisational structure and the openness that allows a good idea to be presented directly to top management and, if it makes sense, put into practice. For Monika, being a team player is essential. She values people who can look for compromise, stay positive and are not afraid to think beyond established ways of doing things.
Monika has two children, aged fourteen and twelve, and balancing family life with a demanding role is made easier by the company’s “Allwyn Flexi” model. Under this arrangement, employees are only required to be available during core hours, roughly from 10 a.m. to 2 or 3 p.m. The rest of the working day can be organised individually, including the option to work from home twice a week. According to an employee barometer by Up Česká republika, almost 70% of Czech employees would prefer greater flexibility instead of fixed working hours. For Monika, this kind of flexibility is already part of everyday working life at Allwyn.
Monika finds the gaming industry both fascinating and intellectually stimulating. No two projects are the same, and because her team works on front-end applications, she can see the results of their work quickly and in a very tangible way. At the same time, she is aware that working for a lottery company comes with specific responsibilities. She therefore values the strong emphasis Allwyn places on responsible gaming and on the range of control mechanisms designed to address both the ethical and legal aspects of the business.
Monika spends most of her free time with her children, whether at football matches or travelling around Europe. She enjoys reading, including professional literature from the IT field, and continues to learn languages, including Spanish, French and German. For her, the combination of flexibility, interesting work and the people around her is the main reason she stays at Allwyn. According to Monika, the right people for her team are those who know how to collaborate, look for compromise and are open to learning more about the gaming business. And to anyone considering a career at Allwyn Czech Republic, she has a simple message:
“Don’t hesitate, just give it a try. It’s great here.”
